Federal technology policy

Dr. Burns has worked as a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation's National AI Research Institutes, creating and managing 4 new streams of funding to support safe, trustworthy, and responsible AI research. He also helped organize the 2023 Summit of AI Leadership conference. Before that, as a Research Associate at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, he organized workshops, conducted tech policy research, and wrote policy white papers.
